About Us

FEI Dressage Training and Instruction

My  passion in life has always been working with horses. I started owning and training horses at the age of nine. I have ridden multiple disciplines throughout the years due to my father being transferred around the world in his military career. These disciplines included western pleasure, gymkhana events, hunter jumpers and eventing. Now, I specialize in the sport of dressage.
For over 30 years I have managed my own business and barn, teaching lessons, training, and selling horses. I have bred and raised several of my own show prospects as well as importing multiple talented prospects.

I am highly skilled and accomplished through the FEI levels.

Bronze, Silver and Gold

I have shown several young horses successfully in the USEF Young Horse program and I have been invited to participate in some of the Young Horse Training sessions.
I continue to fine tune my own education and keep my standards high. I have personally trained with many of the top professionals in the dressage field, including Klaus Balkenhol, Steffen Peters, Christine Traurig, Kathleen Raine, and Debbie McDonald.
I have been on the Developing Riders list and have participated at Gladstone at the Intermediare 1 Championships. I have earned my USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals. I have won numerous USDF and USEF awards. I enjoy training the young horses and bringing them up to the FEI levels. I have also coached young riders to compete successfully at the NAJRYC and Gladstone Festival of the Horse.

Ethics and Honest

Although my profession requires a dedicated work ethic, my love for the sport makes it easy for me to consider it a pleasure. I am passionate and positive about my career and enjoy my work with the honesty and integrity  necessary for a successful business.

Training and Instruction

At Carefree Dressage, we offer full and partial training or instruction programs. Teri enjoys helping her clients bring their horses up through the levels to their desired potential, whether amateur rider, young rider, or advanced rider. Teri travels to local shows with her clients as well as the top CDI shows in California and surrounding states.
In her teaching, her goal is to help riders be more of a "thinking" rider and give the rider the tools needed to asses possible problems before they arise for greater success. This helps to make more confident and skillful riders.
Teri has individualized training programs adjusted to fit every financial and educational need of the client.

Thank you for your interest in sponsorship. Sponsorship allows riders the opportunity they might not otherwise afford in the achievement of their goals; to compete in some of the world's most prestigeous competitions such as the Pan Am Games, World Cup, World Equestrian Games , and the Olympic Games.  I have a serious commitment to my sponsors, and I take great pride in promoting them. Sponsorship is invaluable to helping a rider achieve their goals. It can cost tens of thousands of dollars each year to compete a top horse internationally. I have over 30 years experience training horses to excel to their highest levels, and have won numerous awards in dressage competitions. I have a great desire to be the best I can possibly be at my sport. I guarantee that 100% of sponsorship money, and contributions, will go directly into competition and horse related expenses. Any contribution, no  matter how small, is greatly appreciated.

Types of Sponsorship vary, and can be tailored to fit any program. Some of the following offered are:

  • Corporate/ Business logo on competition attire.
  • Logo on horse's training wear, saddle pads, blankets, etc...
  • Logo displayed on the rider's jackets , hats, and shirts.
  • Signage on my horse trailer which travels throughout the west, being seen by both the general public and equestrian community.
  • VIP access at competitions.

If you would like to experience dressage as an horse owner, please visit:

"Owning a dressage horse is a thrilling journey. The ride up through the levels of dressage is just as exciting as reaching the destination. As an owner of a horse, you will be behind the scenes and an involved member of an unforgettable journey. You will be kept informed of all relevant news pertaining to your horse—training progress, show schedules, and official ranking list. You will be able to watch your horse compete at local shows, potentially train in US team training sessions, and compete in the international arena. Quite possibly, you can follow your horse all the way to the next Olympics or World Equestrian Games. The joy of watching your horse develop and rise to its full potential on the world stage is probably the most satisfying part of being an owner. Being an owner also comes with its privileges. Besides specific social gatherings and outings, you will be joining a close-knit community of individuals dedicated to improving the quality of dressage in the US. In essence, you will become an integral member of your horse's team and Team USA.”
